As of right now, what is the best Core 2 Duo single GPU MB chipset to go with. Major considerations are overclocking and features.

Anyone recommend a particular board or boards?

Thanks so much!

P35 without question. There are lots of good P35 based boards to chose from. Here are some top models that get most of the recommendations around here:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R: Awesome overclocking and BIOS support, great features, good cooling. An outstanding product.

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L: Same thing as the DS3R, but without RAID support and slightly inferior cooling. I you don't want RAID then there's no need to spend the extra for the DS3R. This is the board I would get if I were building today.

ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35: I'm not as familiar with the differences between the different P5K boards as I am the DS3 ones, but this looks like the standard model. A solid choice.

The DS3L is the best price/performance board out right now, and if you don't need RAID then it is the obvious choice in my opinion.

If space (small case) is the reason to get a single gpu mb, then go with p35.
its cheap and fast.
if you can spare an extra 30$ why don't you get sli/xfire ?
in a few months you might want to go for a second gpu.
you can find at newegg:
ASUS P5N32-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i - 139$
ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 - 126$ for crossfire.
sorry for my English, i'm from greece.

P35 is still crossfire it just wont run at 16x16 like the x38... either 8x8 or 16x4

dual gpu is overrated unless you have a large resolution to generate.

Okay, don't get a 680i because it's not guaranteed to support Penryn.

Don't get X38 because it isn't much better than P35, especially considering its price premium.

Get a P35 board because it is the best price/performance/features chipset on the market right now. In a pinch it will even do Crossfire.

Will be in the same ball park as P35 vs. x38. Price premium for added PCI-e2.0 and more lanes

Also 680i doesn't officially support Penryn. This isn't like X38 not officially supporting FSB1600 but still doing it. The majority of 680i boards will not function with a quad core Penryn. Whoops

I take that back. I stopped the Gygabyte DS4 Rev 2.0, and went with the new EVGA 780i board. Will have it here tomorrow. Going to SLI two 8800 GTX Superclocked cards.......
