I'm looking to purchase a new Intel DP35DPM motherboard for my new upgrade. However when I ask one of my friend last night he told me that the BOXDP35DPM & BLKDP35DPM are not actually the same motherboard, that the BLK version is actually a slight downgraded one of the BOX version. I've had a look on newegg but the only difference I can from the specs is the BOX version includes cables where the BLK version doesn't. So is this actually true or is he just playing with me?
From looking at this from intel, it looks like the BLK is a bulk sku of the BOX board. So it looks like it is the same to me but I've been wrong before.
My guess is the BLK will have a less fancy box than the BOX because it is a bulk sku... atleast thats my best guess
Just a note on the boards, Intel boards other then their highest end boards(975X "Bad Axe" and "Bad Axe 2" or X38) have no overclocking settings in the BIOS at all. If you plan on overclocking at all, you would need to choose a different board. If you want stability at stock speeds, Intel boards are just fine for that.
Bulk boards from Intel are sold mostly to oem.
The boards are the same.
The difference is the warranty.
A bulk board (ie: DP35DPMblk) has a one year Intel warranty.
A retail board has a three year Intel warranty.
Sometimes a bulk board will have different component specifications but it is indicated in the suffix board name. For example a retail board may have a GL suffix for Gigabit Lan controller while the bulk board will only have the L suffix for a 10/100 Lan controller.
Comparison specifications for the blk and retail DP35DP motherboard:
Note: Before fanboys get their panties in a wad, read the warranty notation on the bottom of the the Intel board spec page. The three year warranty is offerred on: "ยน offered with Boxed Desktop Boards"
