Every so often my mouse will stop working. The lights go off, and it loses all functionality.

Logitech G5 Laser Mouse
Windows Vista 64Bit
GeForce 8800GTX
AMD 4600+
Asus M2N32 SLi Deluxe Mobo

In XP there was a problem with some USB devices not liking it when the power to the USB bus was shut off.  That could be fixed by going into device manager and switching the power saving off for the USB root hubs.  There may be a similar option for Vista.
