well Iv been wanting to overclock my CPU for awhile now, due to it running on load only at 36c (64 x2 4200 at 2.2ghz). But my mobo has all the bios settings locked (which most companies prebuild computer companies do these days =/).I know to unlock them you have to flash the Bios, I dont understand the process fully and havent been able to find a very detail guide on doing it. Also I dont know where to find the drivers to replace them with. Any help/knowledge in this subject would be greatly appreciated! ^.^

I have never heard of flashing the bios to unlock them. Could you show some examples of such?

Another way to OC is to hardmod the cpu, which you'll have to read up yourself.

i dont think people will invest time in reprogram a oem bios.as the mobo from dell and such are using low quality component to keep the cost down.as its nothing enthusiast so good component is not needed!as long as they will run at stock they and the customers will be happy.

a bit of information about unlocking a motherboard

flashing bios.
the process of copying a new bios into the flash memory of the board and thus replacing the old bios

unlocking the bios.
reprogramming the bios to access features that have been locked (preset and changes disabled by the manufacturer)

who locks bios:
usually dell, hp, gateway, and manufacturers of other tier 1 systems. this is done to prevent service calls to thier tech support. these systems are not for the highly competent they are for beginners who just want to "grab and go"

what is required to unlock bios:
a copy of the bios file, a utility to edit the features of a bios, like for an Award-phoenix bios it is usually modbin6.exe both AMI and 100% phoenix bios have thier own utilities however i have never seen the one for phoenix.

a person would edit the bios using the utility and then flash (or copy) the bios onto his motherboard hoping that no mistakes were made.
