Hi,

I'm looking for help regarding whether a 512mb XFX Geforce 8800GT (1.9 cm x 23 cm x 11 cm) will fit in an Inspiron 530s (the slim 530 model). Any help would be much appreciated.

Quite possibly. I doubt the rest to the Inspiron would fit in the case with it though.

You can't upgrade the graphics card on a Laptop.

Sorry, Dell's amazing marketing confused me  Thought Inspiron was Laptops.

ATX back panel.

Comparing the height of the ATX bracket to the PCI brackets you can see the 530s has smaller PCI brackets than a normal case.

Back panels are virtually the same size and dimensions. You really need to worry about the inside of your case, and if your PCI-E slot bumps into RAM or whatever else may be in the road.

Generally, if its not a mini-case or something compact, it should fit. I'm not entirely sure with cards produced in the last few years or so. You also need to worry about your other PCI cards, if any, which may be too wide or leave too narrow of a space for your new graphics card.

Refer to the post directly above your's. A slim case requires a low profile video card.

I'll tell you right now it will be way to HOT in that tiny case that has **** ventilation (does it even have a fan?). Buy a new (cheap $30+) case and a Corsair 450vx (from buy.com) and you'll be set.

Low profile? What do you mean by this?

Here's a list of low profile cards, make note of the bracket on the cards as it will need to be low profile as well, and they do not all come that way.

I'm crushed guys I really am. I triple checked everything before choosing the PC. I chose a good CPU and decent amount of memory. I chose the slim design because of space issues. The 8800GT would have been the icing on the cake but now.................the low profile cards are pretty useless for the games I want to play.

Hold it! I actually work as a sales rep for Dell. You have more options! The 530s has low profile, it is true. But it is PCIexpress, not PCI...searching right now...

Buy a new case.

I did it for a buddy.. the slim-line had it's own removeable MB tray that I just screwed onto the case. Worked out fine, and he fit new cards..

Just get a cheapo case if you don't mind doing it.

Otherwise as suggested.. Slim cards.

He still had a Geforce 4 when he moved up.

keep in mind that a dell inspiron 530s has a 250 watt power supply so that limits your choices
