Hi All,

I am having some issues with overclocking.

I believe my board may be the culprit and am debating changing it for a Gigabyte p35-ds3l.

I have been able to reach 2.6ghz but only with 1.4 volts.
I have disabled speedstep and another option as per the overclocking guide.

my ram is ddr2 667, right now it is running at 725 since my bios does not let me choose anything besides auto, 725 and higher. so i have that set to 1.9volts.

I have a zalman 7700 cooler and 4-12cm fans accross.

I am not sure what i am doing wrong, because many people have said they get higher at a lower voltage.

I am stable through prime 95 and reach about 62-63 degrees celsiuc this way.

Anyone know if I would be better off with the board? or changing the chip?

thanks
Kev

Is that a p35 chipset board? 1600mhz is normally the reliable overclock limit for p35. Many people get higher, but you should not count on that as if it's a certainity. 1600 is what you can reasonably expect, if you get higher, count yourself lucky, if not, you have no right to get angry. If you're going to get a new motherboard for higher overclocking, get x38, which runs at 1600mhz natively, and oc reliably to 2000+mhz.

I don't think that ASUS is the greatest of all boards. Instead, grab a ASUS p5k-e, it OCs very well and has many options.

thats the one i want but most places here dont carry it, they carry the p5k-e wifi, but its 165, i was looking around 100.

running at 400 for FSB you need to up the voltage of both NB and PLL.your ram could be the limit as its unstable in overclock.replace them with ddr2-800.

HI iluv,

I do not plan on going to 400 fsb, 333 maybe a bit more, i only want to get to 3ghz or so, maybe 3.2. but at least 3 and stable and then i wont worry what so ever.

Then a cheap p35 will do. It runs at 1333mhz(4x333) fsb natively, and most can reliably oc to 1600mhz.

the best clock for 3.2ghz i would say is 8x400FSB so your ram can in sync with the cpu and fsb for the best performance.

i tried a few tests last night.

i have the memory linked. at stock voltage.

fsb 290

so ram is at 580

chip is at 290*9 = 2610

at 1.475.

I have tried putting voltage at 1.45 and it doesnt boot into windows

i have also tried, like maximum pc did, to put voltage to 1.5625 and only went up to 295 then 300 fsb, and then it crashes right of way.

i really dont get it.

am i that unlucky to have gotten a chip that wont overclock past 2.6?

or is the board that screwed.

I even tried 8*333 for a 667 ram and 2664 chip and it crashes even with the 1.56 voltage......

im starting to wonder if the board wont accept any higher fsb....
