pci-e x4

What is the pci-e x4 connector for? They are everywhere. ~50% of the other available slots.
I expect to put in a graphics card on the pci-e x16 and a sound card on a pci connector.
What is everyone putting in these x4 and x1 slots?

X-fi have a PCI-e version now
RAID cards
GPU's can still go in the 4x and 1x slots and are good for muliple monitors
Ive also seen server based LAN cards

Give it time and there will be more
