bad score on 3dmark06

hi all just built my new pc and benchmarked it yesterday, however my score was only 4706!! my old machine which was sh*t scored 38** something!
i have mb asus p5n-d
cpu core 2 duo e6550
8600gt 256mb
ocz 2ghz 800mhz ram
sata western digital 250gb hdd
and i have it plugged into my 27" hd tv through hdmi

any help to make it better???

ps have installed latest drivers and have not overclocked it yet

hey,
assuming you're using the default settings for 3dmark, that score looks about right. I had that card w/athlon x2 4000+ oc'd to 2625 mhz and 2GB of DDR2800 and I got around that as well. If you have the 8600gt with GDDR3 memory, you can overclock like crazy and get scores in the mid to high 5000's. I hit 5700 by overclocking my 8600gt to the SSC speeds eVGA uses. But that card isn't really going to get that much better. Hope this helps.

That score sounds about right. 8600gt is a bad card. My 8800gts 512mb get slightly above 15k. The difference is that big. You can see benchmarks on Tomshardware.
