Hey everybody, a fellow n00b needs help. I currently have an Abit IP35 Pro motherboard hooked up to WD 150 GB HD which has Windows XP on it and I have just ordered a new Hitachi 500GB HD to free up space. I would like a RAID 0 setup between these two hard drives but I have a few questions:
1.) With my motherboard is it possible to configure a RAID 0 with these two hard drives?
2.) If it is possible, can I do it so I do not need to install windows again (format both hard drives)
3.) If both the answers to questions 1 & 2 are "Yes", does anybody mind helping me out on how to go about doing this?
I appreciate all the help and I hope I will be able to solve this issue. Thanks!!!
1. yes it is possible. You can create raid over equal size partitions. make sure that you have raid mode set in the bios. then hit control I to see the matrix raid options
2. Mybe depends on what mode the bios was set when you installed xp in the first place. IF it was set to achi or raid then it would be possible to migrate to raid 0 using the intel matrix storage manager.
Thanks for the reply! I still have a few questions though...
1.) So it is possible to do RAID 0 with these hard drives, but I can only do RAID 0 with 300 GB (2 x 150) instead of my total 650 GB (150+500?)? Is there no way to have a RAID 0 of 650GB (One 150 GB HD and 1 500 GB JD) in my setup?
2.) When I installed XP in the first place, bios was NOT set to RAID or ACHI, so is it impossible to add my 500 GB HD and configure in a RAID 0 setup without having to reinstall XP?
