ok, i am able to OC my cpu up to 3.5ghz. i can do this a few ways:

Setting #1 - 14.5X with 241mhz fsb. memory 5-5-5-12 @ 2.1v
Setting #2 - 15X with @233mhz fsb. memory also 5-5-5-12@2.1v

now windows post fine without a problem. I play a bit of cod4 for 20-30min without a problem. CPU runs @ 55-58C at full load. Now I try to run 3dmark06 and both settings will crash @ the first cpu test. I cant figure this out. My Vcore is getting a health 1.48V. Any suggestions? I have a Coolermaster 212 with 2 fans and its rank top 5 air cooler. Should I be running different benchmarks instead of 3dmark06? ahh help.

well AMD have flop for the past year or two after the Core 2 series have launched.so i guess many people already switch to Intel for its great performance/watt and high and easy overclockability of its CPU.

back about 2 years ago i was about to get a AMD system as its so much powerful and efficient then the Netburst architechure of the Pentium's.so i praise about AMD before but now FAILED HARD!!!

last advice if you are looking to upgrade again or a fresh build please build a Intel based system as there many support from manufacture to forums like here.

Anyway good luck.

I'm an AMD user still, though my OCs have never been anywhere near that good.  Does it only crash in 3DMark?  If so you could just ignore it.  Does it restart or just crash?  Try some testing software like prime95 and memtest to see if it crashes then.

I suppose you brought the HT multiplier down by one?

I have a 790fx dfi board and the cmos is quite complicated. The HT is under 1000 in cpuz so i dont think the HT speed is a problem.

It only crashes in 3dmark06. I tried prime and it was fine. I tried superPI and it was fine. 2hr of hardcore cod4 and it was fine as well. I dont know what the problem could be. MY temp reaches 55C MAX. Its usually around 50C at full load as I have good ventilation and cooling.

I am currently at 14.5X multiplier and 240fsb. HT is below 1000. Ram is about 850mhz @ 4-5-4-12 2.1V.

i just read a thread of the videocard section and some people mentioned that ATI does not like OC cpu on 3dmark06. is this true? Are there another reputable program to stress my cpu?

Not being an ATI owner, I can't really see why ATI cards would fail from cpu OC. Well, unless you run 3dmark for a living, it doesn't really matter does it?

I think Prime95 or Orthos is the best cpu stress test out there. Why do you need a better one? Just run it longer, 24hours or so.
