My friend (Intel fanboi) wants to see if AMD's top of the line CPU can beet his Q6600 @ Stock. You guys have some way to push this babe up?

PS. I've seen some forums said that this CPU can't raise the VCore, if do so I will get a BSOD. So it's kindda hard to OC.

Correction: AMD's top cpu is the 9850BE. The former top cpu was the 9600BE.

Anyways, what do you mean by "beat"? Like in certain benchmarks? If I remember correctly, the Phenom wins in one benchmark against the Q6600 clock for clock, but I don't remember which. But anyways, to beat a 2.4GHz Q6600, you'll need to OC it to 2.8GHz+.

Actually, the Phenom's architecture isn't ancient, it just isn't very good  :D

Hey! I wanna OC my phenom 9500 and 8400 some year too! Once I am done with the intel trip!! But since a stock q6600 with a bad VID is a daily 3.2... good luck! A mid VID is 3.6, and super low may push 3.8! (like my 1.2000!)

So.. you OC a phenom by 400 Mhz tops? Isnt that about all they are good for? From what I have read...

Triple Cripple! Tri Core, I have one and yoooou dont!

the only benchmark that a AMD CPU will win its memory benchmark.it has hole the crown from loooooooooooooooong time ago due to its intergrated memory controller.

but its about to change as the Nehalem will also have intergrated memory controller.so im looking to total lost for AMD unless it come up with something VERY SPECIAL!

Yeah, like give up on quads, and hope people think tri core is better than intel dual cores?

i think AMD is stupid put up with the tri core, as they said our 3 core high speed processor could match the performance of a 2 core processor from intel which running at a lower speed.

its embarrasng to put that statement up isnt it?its like saying "when others just need 2 slim kids(intel) to do the job we "JUST" 3 strong man(AMD) to do it instead."

Well, while I agree the tri-core is nothing impressive, I think that they might as well try selling them.  It is better than just throwing them in the garbage.

Like I said, I think they have no choice but to ONLY compete with intels dual core market since they lost to Quads. So maybe they hope that people simply think like 2 is better than one, maybe 3 is better than two?

Technically, in theory, three will be better than two.

Well, since the the Tri-core is a crippled Quad Phenom (Hence Tripple Cripple, haha...), instead of throwing it away, why not sell it as a Tri-core? I think this is a great idea from AMD.
