got the dimension 9100. it came with 1gb (2 X 512 sticks), i upgraded to 2GB by adding another kingston pc2 4200 1gb stick. i recently got 2 X 1gb sticks of corsair and no matter what combo i try, if its over 2gb it wont boot. as soon as i reconnect power it beeps and pretty much sounds like an alarm, and my vid card fan just blows nonstop. every combo at or below 2gb works, anything over gives the alarm when connected to power.

no other mods to the pc other than the vid card upgrade, and its nothing rediculous anyways.

everything i have read says dell dimension 9100 good up to 4gb.

depends on combination and densities of the modules used (eg 4x512mb vs 2x1gb)

also check - it might be a dual channel setup
