I currently have an OCZ Modstream 450W 26A. The PSU is fine but I feel it can't handle my system. Because in some other threads i posted in THG forum no1 even bother to help me identify the problem for me. So i just assume my PSU has very bad quality, because it can't handle:

E6300 B2 stock 1.225v
GA 965P-DS3 rev1.0
ATI X800XL
Seagate 250GB SATA
OCZ GOLD XTC ddr2-800
Thermaltake big typhoon
centurion 5
1 fear case fan
1 DVD burner
1 floppy drive

MY psu cant handle this computer when playing far cry. always shuts down and restarts when playing far cry. and it cant handle 3.01 GHz oc, which i previously attained using this psu 1 year ago. so i just assume the psu is bad. I m gonna buy a new top quality psu. Im looking at the following:

Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620W ATX Triple 12V 50A 24PIN ATX Modular Power Supply 120MM Fan 2X PCI-E
$149

PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 Quad 750W ATX V2.2 EPS12V 24PIN SLI Active PFC Power Supply Black
$165

Silverstone Olympia OP750 750W 20/24 Pin Power Supply ATX / EPS12V Active PFC 120MM Fan
$174

Silverstone Zeus ST75ZF 750W ATX12V 24PIN Power Supply W/80MM Fan Active PFC Quad SLI Certified
$183

OCZ Evostream 600W ATX V2.2 20/24PIN SLI Ready Modular Cables 80MM Fan Active PFC Power Supply
$150

Thermaltake Toughpower 750W ATX12V 24PIN SLI/CROSSFIRE Ready ATX Power Supply 140MM Fan Active PFC
$170

Antec Truepower Quattro 850W Power Supply ATX V2.2 EPS12V 20/24PIN Active PFC 80PLUS Dual 8PIN PCI-E
$175

I can't decide here, but i like the silverstone ones. I dont know the diference between the silverstone zeus and olympia. Isnt zeus = lord of olympia? I want the psu to handle my 3.01GHz oced system and 8800GT/8800GTS G92/HD 3870 upgrade, and the psu has to fit thermaltake armor or antec P182 and the cable length need to be enough so i dont have to get extension cable in those 2 big cases. Seasonic is out of consideratrion b/c M12-700 is $210+ and M12-600 is not in stock. thats really bad.

Please recommend a PSU for me. From good psu reviews, these psus seem very good have good regulation none ripple good efficiency. those 3 things are the only thing I care about the PSU im gonna be getting. Also temperature/noise i can tolerate those, but they should be taken in to consideration. thanks please decide a psu for me.

The PCPower silencer 750 Quad, everything you want and more, from a tier one PSU manufacturer/reseller.

No flashing lights, no gold on the grill, just a damn good computer power supply.

Indeed...The PCpower psu's are damn top notch. I was looking at one also for my next rig. Need a 1KW psu or a 850 watt...Unfortunately they don't make 850 watt versions, and their 1kw is 500 dollars..I'll just have to do with a Enermax Galaxy EPS 1kw for 320. Still good..But PCPower and cooling would always be my first choice..

Your PC doesn't use a lot of power. It will have a hard time breaking the 300w mark even when overclocked.

I would normally suggest a good 500w PSU like the Seasonic S12 500. But the Seasonic S12 550 is cheaper than the S12 500 with the mail-in rebate:

Seasonic S12 550 = $116 after $20 mail-in rebate.

Dead silent and up to 88% power efficient.

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

You don't need one off the listed psu's if your using a single gfx card

agree with jaguarskx, go with the Seasonic S12 550 unless your going to upgrade to a dual gfx setup in the near future

Yeah from what you guys said my OCZ modstream 450W should be have enough power, but when I play far cry it just shuts down and restarts when it loads a checkpoint. And I can play oblivion fine. Though when playing oblivion, I get some weird performance like this: the game is 30+ FPS in dungeon, but the graphic just keeps "jerking" for a while. Its like I'm having a internet lag when playing oblivion this is ridiculous. I may upgrade to 3870 X2 and Kentsfield, because i dont wanna buy a new mobo just for penryn, though penryn should use less power but im gonna oc the new quad core for sure its gonna consume a lot of power anyway. So is Seasonic S12 550 still enough for 3870 x2 and oc'ed kentsfield? Also I may get thermaltake armor w/ the 25cm fan, and probably 4-5 case fans, and 1more HDD. Is Seasonic M2 550 still enough for those? Also, I want a PSu that's stable, has rock solid 12v rails, next to non-existence ripple, and fairly good efficiency. The noise doesn't concern me because I just turn up volume when playing games. The temp of PSU doesnt matter much, either, but should NOT affect the performance or system stability. Thanks. Is Seasonic M12-550 good for those requirements?

If you plan to go dual CF eventually you'll want the PC Power and cooling solution. I should have read the thread more thoroughly..But I just looked at the psu choices If you plan to OC with your current setup. a Corsair 520 or 620HX is more then efficient. Considering you stated you had your OC for a year and reverted back to stock...It has to be PSU degradation. It happens...That's why I always recommend getting a bit more then needed...So when it does degrade after a period of time, it still has enough power to run everything. Considering the price difference between the 620HX and pc Power and cooling 750...You may as well nab it. PCPower and cooling are top notch tier 1 psu's. Especially the 750 one in your list. You'll be able to handle that quad nicely, as well as have room for Crossfire since you're considering it. Better to get more then you need if you ever change your mind and go dual IMO. That's what I'm planning to do for my next rig.

Keep in mind, even if it's a 750 watt. It only means it's capable of pulling that much juice. If you don't have enough hardware to use up that much. Then it'll still draw a smaller amount of power. Your electric bill won't go up at all, all depends on your hardwares power draw. So better to nab something that has a future than a PSU limiting your choices if you change your mind, choice is yours. If the 450w modstream degraded to the point of failing on an OC...You should look at the 520HX...or around that area. If you want future room for a OC'ed Quad and crossfire..Nab that PCPower & Cooling 750 watt psu. Hope this helps.

One of the best PSU's I have come across is Seasonic 650W S12-650 ''Energy +'. Very high built quality and very low noise. You can't go wrong with it.

Thanks guys. My assumption about PSU was correct. When I was posting the first post I was kinda in a rush, cared less about grammar and spelling. Well, I chose the list of PSUs for a reason. It's mainly because I have read jonnyguru's reviews. He uses a load tester which simulates system load. I trust his reviews. For the reviews on xbitlabs, and other PSU review sites, I just couldn't understand the detail clearly without spending a lot more time. I knew I will buy PCP silencer 750 sooner or later, but after reading jonnyguru's review here: http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=124 I changed my mind slightly, considering the performance of the silencer isn't what I expected (efficient, no ripple, excellent regulation). However it's still on top of others. Another concern is the cable length. Reports say the silencer's cable length is quite short. I was concerned that the length may not be enough for bigger cases that I plan to buy in the future, like TT armor or Antec P182, but for now, I think I should just focus on the current upgrade which is 8800GT/G92 GTS/HD 3870/HD 3870 X2, so cable length won't bother me if I get Silencer.

The reviews @ jonnyguru shows excellent performance on the Seasonic ones, but the avability is not that high and they are pricey. However both PCP silencer and Seasonic are good ones. I was also into Silverstone PSUs, but the reviews showed different result on Decathlon, Olympia, and Zeus models. I don't know which Silverstone line is the best if I were to get a Silverstone PSU. May need someone's input here. Thanks.

I would not trust that johnny guys reviews too much. Yes they are very thorough..But he's not noticing the quality of the components...Yes the high quality psu's that we know of score high. But so do the low quality psu's. Why?..Because he's only measuring the outputs. But a **** component quality PSU will die on you quickly...

Come on...he gave a rosewill psu a high score...a 50 dollar psu that has known to die out on many people not after much use. Take his reviews with a grain of salt. But, it is nice to look at the high tier psu's....and rate their ability against his reviews. Gives you all the details...Mix the tiered cpu list and his reviews and you got a good match. I'm glad to see the enermax galaxy 1kw rated quite well on his reviews. 320 for a PSU aint cheap...getting it for my new rig in febuary.
