I just bought a 8800GT, put it into the rig powered it up and the fan spins on the card but all i get is a series of beeps and nothing else happens, no signal on the screen etc.
Put back in my old card X1900XTX and all works fine again.
I have updated the bios, tried putting it into the second PCI-E slot.. but still doesn't work.. Of course it could be just a faulty card, but before I take it back tomorrow for them to test it I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something that could be stopping this card from working. . So if anyone has any ideas I would be greatful for the help..
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
3700+
2 Gig DDR1
Tagan TG530 -U15
Current card X1900XTX
Basically I just wanted to change the graphics card for now before I buy a new board, cpu and ram next year, but I don't see why this card wouldn't work on my current setup.
Order of replacement encase anyone wonders..
removed old ATI drivers
removed x1900xtx
put in 8800gt, plugged in +12V rail that was powering the old card before.
booted up .. card fan spins.. and then a series of beeps and nothing else happens..
switched off .. remove 8800gt, put x1900xtx back in .. booted up fine.. did a bios update to 1303 and tried again, still no joy..
i had a problem with getting a picture and it was because everytime i moved the moniter wire in the back it took the card out of the slot just a little, doubt this is your problem but just giving my two cents

Are you putting the extra 6-pin power adapter into the card (If you use the one that comes in the box, plug in both ends - Also, isolate the card onto it's own rail so you make sure you're getting the full amount of power)? That series of beeps mean your graphics card isn't seated right or it's not getting enough power.

Yes mate of course I am using the same power that was used to power my X1900XTX and as I said I am using a Tagan power supply which has two +12v rails just for the graphics card so you can run it in SLI mode if you wish.. So i really don't see how it cannot be getting enough power..
As for it on seated right .. If push it into the slot any harder it will come out the other side of the board
Going to take the card back today to see if its the card thats faulty.. hope it is . because not sure whatelse can be causing this.
The beeping is what the card does when not enough power being received to the card to post.

go to your friends house plug in GT and see if it posts. that it
Yeah going to the shop now I bought it from to test it there... if it works there I really don't understand why it doesnt work on my machine as my psu is more than good enough to run that card
Try using a DVI-D cable, I have had the same probs with a Samsung Syncmaster monitor (DVI-D) and the 8800GT (DVI-I).
Prob seems to be monitor cannot auto select which signal to give back to the graphics card. If you can you could try manually selecting the mode (ie digital) or buy a DVI-D cable.
If you want to test this use the DVI-I to VGA converter that came with the card and see if that works.
I had the same problem - I was running an X1900xt fine but the 8800gt refused to boot (it made those beeps as you say) even though it tested fine in another PC. I ended up upgrading my motherboard (which was a socket 939 Abit AX8 V2.0) after reading that the 8800gt has problems with some older motherboards that have PCI-E version 1.0. Card works fine now so I would recommend you test the card in a newer motherboard.
