Disk read error solution

Hi,

If the BIOS is still recognizing your hard disk, you can try these steps, one at a time, until you arrive at a solution.

Startup your computer with the XP CD.
Press R to select the repair option via the Recovery Console.
At the command prompt - type chkdsk /r and press <Enter>.
Then type Exit and press the Enter key.
Remove the XP Disc from the drive.
Restart your computer to see if it boots up properly now.

If it still does not work, try this:

Startup your computer with the XP CD.
Press R to select the repair option via the Recovery Console.
At the command prompt - type fixmbr and press <Enter>.
At the command prompt - type fixboot and press <Enter>.
Then type Exit and press the Enter key
Remove the XP Disc.
Restart your computer to see if it boots up properly now.


If it still does not work, then try this:

Startup your computer with the XP CD.
Press R to select the repair option via the Recovery Console.
At the command prompt - type bootcfg /rebuild and press <Enter>.
Then type Exit and press the Enter key
Remove the XP Disc.
Restart your computer to see if it boots up properly now.
