I'm planning on upgrading to the Q6600 and am wondering if anyone heard of the 65nm quads dropping in price when the 45nm processors arrive in Jan. Links would help.
Also, I've always used stock coolers, and now want to buy a good cooler along with the Q6600. Does anyone know what the dba on the stock intel cooler is for the q6600? Also which cooler would you recommend. Good low noise and cooling ratio would be good, however I wouldn't mind sacrificing a bit of cooling for silence as I have a CoolerMaster 830 and will be putting some more fans in it.
Most likely the Q6600 will RISE in price very shortly.
Intel will not sell their existing chips at a lower price, but the existing chips will become harder to obtain and hence go up in price due to reduced supply.
This was seen with many of the most recent C2D chips as they were phased out.
However, the upcoming low end-Phenom Quad will have a default clock of 2.5Ghz which is slightly higher than the Q6600 and will have a tray price of $16 less.
No way, I doubt the prices will go up. Well the tray prices at least.
Anyways the prices most likely will not go down much, if any at all. They will be phased out, most likely next year. Just look at the E6600. It's still $223 at newegg while the better e6750 is cheaper and better.

Im inclined to agree, as the 1333fsb c2d's came out the 1066fsb ones prices went up. This can still be seen even now on any online retailer.
low-end Phenom? AMD fanboi maybe?
Why no mention of the low end Penryn due to arrive around the same time at lower heat dissipation. And with issues with current Phenoms why would you?
My thoughts are if you want quad core get it now in the Q6600. If you want to wait id go for the new Penryn CPU's that will be ~roughly same price and faster. Currently Thermalright 120 Ultra eXtreme is one of if not the best air-cooler out there. Buy a good quality 120mm fan to go with it and your laughing all the way to overclocking town.

The link tot he cooler you sent is an expensive one and the fan is tiny. For the same price you can get a Tuniq Tower and run it at a low fan speed. For about as loud you will get a much cooler cpu. Also, rember the artic silver 5 (AS5).
