Can't imagine what I am doing wrong. Bought new External IBM DVD writer/reader. I have tried to install on 2 different computers. 2 plugs in back, one square, one round. Plugged both in to USB ports and light comes on burner, I hear the CD rotating. But the hardware is not recognized, the drive is not appearing in My Computer, and I am not seeing it in the Device and Drive Managers. Anyone have any ideas? If I throw in the towel on this one (bought on ebay from China with so-so response for support) what can you recommend? I mainly need to store photos and music. Thanks!

Install the drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may have to download them to your Hard drive via internet.

Next time buy internal from newegg or similar. $23 for a good internal on newegg.

The square plug is for your USB cable, I assume the round one is for external power source.

I am learning that lesson, the hard way. Am sending it back for a refund (minus shipping of course) and am now considering either getting a new computer with a burner, or buying a new external burner. Suggestions? My desktop is about 3 years old, and is quite slow. Wondering if once I get all of the music and pics off of it, it will speed up a bit.

Shane i am not very familar with IBM external writers either, maybe some others are in here but i myself really never heard much of them. Dude try looking at some other name brands out there unless you know something about IBM DVD writers that i dont.
