I have installed a WD MyBookWorld 500GB network drive. The installation disk has an application called MioNet that enables access to remote computers. My drive is across my LAN through a Netgear router, but is seen my MioNet as being a "remote device" rather than a "local" one. The MioNet application comes with a free trial of the full application which initially provided access to the drive, but now that the free trail period has expire, it sees only "local" drives and will not connect (the subscription is only $7.99/month, but this is bugging me why it won't work as a local device).

I have tried just mapping to the network drive through Windows Explorer (XP), but I am asked fior a username and password which I have no knowledge of.

Thanmks for any help, Bruce.

Why is remote, well...remote? Because it is remote.

Local device = you plugged it in your eSATA/USB/Firewire port directly on your computer.

remote = through a node 1 hop away or more.

This has me chuckling :P
