I need some help with my hard drive yesterday after I got the power back from the hurricane that came through here last week and played a game and then when I exited the game my computer just rebooted and the told me that ntoskrnl.exe missing please re install it so I took out my windows xp disk to repair the problem and would up formatting and now instead of a 120 gb it shows that it is only 30gb ... So my question is really 2 parts 1 how to retrieve files that or on the part of the hard drive that I can't find and how do I get my entire hard drive back? Please help.

You probably got 2 winows installs on it now.

You can go to disk management and delete the old partition r make it active.

Right click my computer, manage, storage, disk management.

Did you actually repair Windows or did you re-install it? Maybe you created a new partition when you re-installed it and that partition is only 30GB.When you boot into windows, see if you have another partition on your hard drive in Explorer.Hopefully that will have all all your old data on it.

If you mean you wound up formatting, then you are probably screwed. All of the old data on the drive is now inaccessible. You may be able to recover the data on the drive that was not overwritten with a data recovery program such as GetDataBack.

ok when I look at the drive through explorer I only can find this portion of my drive and showes nothing else. There is 90 GB missing from it and shows no partitions. Yes I wound up formatting and still no help. I thought at first I was repairing it and then wound up formatting so hopefully I can find the rest of my hard drive. Any help is appreciated.

I went to the disk management and found it but it shows
Disk 0
Unknown
2040.02 GB
Not Intialized

and it has a red circle with a - in it.

It also says Unallocated
Help Please

OK I figured out that I had a 2nd hard drive plugged in and it was that was what was showing as Disk 0 I unplugged it and now it shows just my problem hard drive and I still can't find the rest of this drive. Right now I don't care if I can get my stuff back would love to have my space back ... and if I could get my pics back that would be great but HELP

Uh, try following my earlier post, if you want your data. Then repartition the drive to it's full capacity and reload windows. there is no fix in windows based on the information that you have presented, sorry.

I little late for an answer, I have been busy.

From the page linked.

If at all possible, we always recommend to attach the drive as a second drive to a working computer and run the data recovery software from there.

I'll go one step further and say absolutely not.
