What is the purpose of having this card (8800 gt pci-e 2.0 SLI ) on sli ready if there is no motherboard that will support it. Not unless, I miss something ?

Why build for only backwards compatability?

PCIe 2.0 is already out so you suport those first and foremost, and then there should be PCIe 2.0 780i SLi boards within weeks along with some 790i boards after that.

So within the lifecycle (early in the lifecycle) of the GT/G92 there will be mobo support. you just need to wait a bit for it.

I was talking about the X-38 chipset. But I guess I have no choice but to wait and go for another chip...

Well unfortunately that's the intel vs nVidia tiff, which may have also resulted in a delay in the 780i.

But waiting a few days/weeks for their new mobos shouldn't be too difficult, but the question is, does it matter that much for now?

Sounds like you're in the same position nV was in, building for future support.

Surley its a good thing to have some future functionallity built into the cards like the tessalation units and pcie 2.0 support I personally like knowing that for once they have looked at the bigger picture so now i can buy a high end card and be fairly sure it wont be useless inside a year, :)

Yeah, and really there's no drawback to PCIe2.0 that I can think of. Better power, speed, latency, and only at the cost of a few more or changed transistors.

I don't see any downside to it.
