I need to pick up an extension for my brother's monitor. It is DVI, 22" and 1680x1050, that's pretty much all I know. Can anyone tell from that alone whether it is dual or single link, or will I need to provide more information?

It would only require single link to power that monitor, but the best way to check is to see the pin-out.

I usually don't link to wiki, but it's easy to see the pinouts here;

However if you can't access it and don't know, the I'd say single link will likely be fine based on the specs, but if it's over long distances and the monitor supports dual link input, then get the dual link, but for typical 6ft or less, single link should be fine at that res.
