I have run into an issue with my current TV. When watching dark shows or
even just having it for example on a video input with no signal, the black /
dark is very bright. Somewhat blue with wavy lines in it. No adjustment
seems to help.
Here is an example though nowhere near as bright as it appears in the pics.
Also the focus is actually fine, but since I took the pics in the dark, I
lost all focus.

What could this be? Luckily I have an extended service on it, but am curious
what would cause this.

Thanks

Could be bad CRT(s), a bad focus/G2 block, an open resistor, or a few other
things. Call a Sony ASC. Some of these sets may need to have all three
CRTs changed and Sony may provide some accommodation. A non-ASC, even if
they are approved to do the extended warranty, will likely not have access
to all relevant service information, such as part number changes on the
focus block and CRT warranty extension on certain serial numbered sets. You
will want to use a servicer who is very familiar with your set to assure
that it gets adjusted properly in all modes. Have the serial number
available when you call.

You were right. Bad CRT's. The part numbers have also changed. New ones are
on order and will be installed shortly.
