More Information

A friend's HP 6024us kept losing power and he had me look at it. When I opened the case, there was a ton of dust and lint inside. After I got the crud cleaned out, I noticed that neither cooling fan nor the fan on the power supply, was working. I replaced the cooling fans and power supply. The problem is, the power supply, an Antec BP500 won't power up. I put the power supply on another PC and it worked.

I contacted Antec's tech support and was told that the HP motherboard may be proprietary and that I'd have to purchase an HP power supply. I'd never had this problem before, when I worked on HPs. So, I called HP and they said that the motherboards are not proprietary.

I talked to a tech friend of mine and he said that it may be a dipswitch setting on the motherboard. I went to the HP website and could not find a manual for the 6024us. I'm at my wit's end now. Does anyone know what the problem may be??
