I just bought the Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

and a new antec earthwatts powersupply. I currently have an old emachines, maybe 2 or 3 years old that I believe is an IDE drive. I checked for compatibility, and aparently I am able to support SATA. I just wanted to know how good this drive is, like how it could compare to technology a 3 or 4 years old. Did I make a good choice?

Absolutely!!!!

The Western Digital 640 GB drive is only one of a few that sports 320 GB platters...so it is one of the fastest on the market at this time. I have owned Western Digital for years now and really like their products. The drive you purchased is one that was chosen as a prefered drive by many a website. That is the drive that I originally was going to purchase, until WD released the new VelociRaptor...so I went with TWO in RAID 0.

Enjoy...

Most likely NOT....no big dieal....SATA cables can be acquired from most stores, including the likes of even Target and Walmart. Don't let anyone sell you a bill of goods. SATA cables are all SATA 300 compliant...no special needs for that one
