Ok, I Know there is probably some other threads out there about this topic, but they all seem confusing to me, so I'm going to ask about my specific case.

Currently I have the evga 680i SLI
& ocz 2 gb ( 2 x 1gb )
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2478059&CatId=2261.

I Wish to add ocz 4 (2 x 2gb )
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3404049&CatId=2261

From what ive read as long as i have them in separate channels it should be ok, giving me a total of 6 gb in vista.

Am i correct, if not what do i have wrong?

I can not comment on Nvidia, but Intel chips do it without problems

running 2 x 1 gig DDR2 800 4,4,4,12 and 2 x 512 DDR 667 5,5,5,15. Running it all on 2 volts at 667 4,4,4,10 :)

I should work. just run at the speed/timings of the lowest stuff(5-4-4-15)

Just be aware with that much ram you will need a 64 bit OS to take advantage and see it all...

It's 4 GB minus whatever amount of RAM your video card has. That is, 3.25 with an 8800 GTX, 3.5 with an 8800GT, etc. If you already have Vista 32 I'd say buy another 2 GB kit for a total of 4 GB. You won't see it all but 3.5 is still better than 2.

It does not always work quite that way....

8800GTX(Looks like it works here, but check out the next one :) )

Speed step is why the cpu speed is lower.....

That's totally weird... Maybe the video card is not the only thing that matters. Or maybe the rules are more complicated than I thought.

What are you doing with that 4 MB card, may I ask? Just curious. Where I work we just cleaned up the IT room and threw out some cards with 32 MB :)

The 4 meg card was in a P166 system(so as you guess its been in the closet for a long time....but it had to be PCI....all my other "Spares" are AGP, X850, ect). I had it out for testing the ram limit thing....Hell it can not even do 32 bit color...

My TV card has ram onboard too, but i do not think windows gets to see it at all....

In general 3.0 - 3-5 is the average a user will get with 4 gigs on a 32 bit OS.

Yeah. Worst scenario I've heard of was 2.75 GB with 8800GTX SLI.

At current DDR2 prices I think it's worth buying 4 GB even if you only see 3. The OCZ 4 GB DDR2-800 I bought in July for $229 is now $100 at the same store :)
