Hello,

I am building a computer at the moment and ran into a problem.
My motherboard has a 24-pin pwr1 slot and the plug from the power supply is only a 20-pin.
Also my motherboard has a 8-pin pwr2 slot and all I see from the power supply is a 4-pin and a 6-pin plug.
Can I just stick those in anyway or do I need to go get a new power supply?

Thanks

I have had cases where the 20pin into the mobo is sufficient for the 24pin mobo. However, in most cases it just wont work. You need another PSU dude. The 8pin on your mainboard though can take the 4 pin off the PSU and run fine :)

Depending on your system specs something like this should be fine for a budget lower end system

I just went out and bought a new psu. The guy at microcenter said I was "playing with fire" so I got a nice new one.

-Thanks

Hmmm, what did you buy? Hopefully it was from Tier-3 or better from the list at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiere [...] gs?t=anon.
If not, perhaps the sales guy is hoping you do indeed have some experience with fire so you'll buy more parts from him.

There is ALWAYS a drone. Exactly where, or how many drones you will encounter may vary, but that there will be at least one will not.

I bought an OCZ Stealth Xstream 600W. Seems like pretty sturdy stuff.

Yeah, it's good stuff. It's not on that tiered list but it should be in tier 2 or 3. That is, it's almost as good as the GameXStream which is in tier 2.

now i have to figure out why the computer is so loud. I'm guessing my cpu fan. bummer

That's not so hard to fix :)

If you need a quiet 120mm fan look at Scythe SFF21E, it's excellent.

Is it a hard process to switch them out?
