I have an old e-machin that I use as a back up system that is in use right now. the other day I lost my use of ex and there are some file that I need to get off the computer in the old days I could have done it with out any help but its been a while. Is there anyway to get at the stuff without using windows to do so.

Not quite sure of what you are saying, Windows explorer is gone or the whole Windows?

Anyhow, you can retrieve the information one of the following way:

  • Use a Linux LiveCD (like Knoppix)
  • Install the HD in another machine
  • Install the HD in an external enclosure
  • (Geek)There are some tools that allow to plug a SATA/PATA disk in USB port where you could access it as an "external drive".
