Hello everyone,
I am embarking on a new system build.I am primarily hobbyist dabbling 3d modelling and illustration and its time I got a new rig.I have a budget of $1200.
I've decided on the following components:
1)A Q6600 processor.
2)A 2 GB memory kit from A-DATA,the Vitesta Extreme Edition.
3)A Geforce 8800GT from XFX
4)A Seagate Barracuda 160 Gb hard disk.

I am not going to overclock anytime soon.
I need the option of upgrading to the standard max of 8 Gb of ram.I dont plan on using SLI and I will be running Windows XP.
I have the following questions, and would really like some recommendations.
1)What motherboard would serve me best?(preferably under $200)
2)Will I definitely need an after market CPU cooler?
3)What sort of a power supply will I need,400,500or 600W?(around $100)
4)I was really impressed by the Antec P182.Are there any other options with the same design specs, you know, clean lines, black metal all around...

Thanks in Advance,
Cheers,
Bhargav

Hello and welcome the forums mate :)

1_ASUS P5K, GIGABYTE P35 DS3R
2_If u want to OC, then get a CPU cooler, if u are not going to OC,then the stock cooler is fine
3_OCZ STEALTHXSTREAM 600W is a very good choice
4_I have heard good things about P182, its a nice case

1) ASUS P5K, ABIT IP35-PRO, are other good choices.

2) Beside overclocking, an aftermarket cpu cooler can be quieter.

3) 8800GT recommends 425W 28A on +12v's. The bigger the psu, the more headroom for future upgrades.

4) Antec knows how to build easy-to-install cases & doesn't skimp on the manuals (i.e. some have text so small that it looks like a fine print, others have very vague Engrish.)

Thanks for the suggestions,I really appreciate that.
1)By the P5k ,do you guys mean the deluxe version?Also,how viable is it to run a Q6600 on a P965 mobo?Like a Gigabyte P965 DQ-6 ,or
a P 5b deluxe,say?
2)As I had asked earlier, any guys have some good alternatives for the P182.

Thanks again,
Cheers

Hullo

First questions:
1) Listen to the others since they prolly know a lot more about mobo's then I do. Though i'd recommend what i'm using right now, MSI P35 neo2 FR.
2) You'll be fine with the stock cooler for the CPU. Though you may want to consider an HR-03GT for the graphic card. I heard that thing could get loud.
3) a 600W+ would be good for future upgrades so, OCZ STEALTHXSTREAM 600W sounds good. Consider Antec Earthwatt 500 if you want something cheaper :)
4) Stick with the P182, you can't go wrong :)

Any P5K with 8 phase power regulation is good (P5K-E or Deluxe/Premium).

The P965 chipset is getting old (cheap old stock boards). A P35 board is the way to go.

2. Take a look at the Cooler Master RC-690 case and the Corsair 550 VX powersupply also.

Lian Li is another good case choice. Another is Silverstone. They're no frills non-bling. Plain looking. Aluminum. Expensive.

P5K vanilla minimum, P5K-E or Deluxe is better if you can afford it.

I recommend P5K-E WIFI over deluxe because they only have 2 differences:
1_Deluxe has one more copper
2_Deluxe has one more gigabit lan

other specs and the designs are exactly the same and P5K-E WIFI is cheaper too
