Hi, I am currently running my:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550,
GeForce8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3,
Kingston 2GB DDR2 667 5300 Ram,
Western Digital 160GB Hard Drive
1 regular DVD RW
on GIGABYTE GA-G31MX-S2 LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
with 480W Power Supply that came with my case.

I want to get a slim or micro ATX case but most cases only support up to 300W on PSU. I was wondering if it would be possible to run all those with regular 300W PSU that comes along with a case. For example, something like this http://www.directron.com/bt610t300bl.html.

If not, how much Watts or what kind of PSU would I need roughly?

PSUs that come with cases are notorious for being cheap sparkers.
The Apevia X-QPACK2 SFF case will take a full-sized PSU; that's what I'm using.

i don't think 300 will be enough

From what I see on your list your are maxed out with a 300w PSU. And concur that you may see issues due to poor power on a rail and being so close to max on the PSU. I would go with a 400w or larger, I prefer PC Power & Cooling. Here is a link to one on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 817703011. This one is 470w, if you go with a larger PSU you will be able to upgrade your PC without worrying about if the PSU can handle the load. Good luck on your build.

You need 15-17 amps on the 12v rails as a minimum. Please check the lable of the PSU.

eXtreme Power Supply Calculator: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp

The free version doesn't cover rail counts or amps/rail, so look up the requirements of your components (the 8600 for sure) and, as evongugg said, check the PSU label.

Yes, it should be possible to run it on a 300w PSU. Below are power consumptions for parts that are actually a little more powerful than what you have:

Estimated Power Consumption on 12V rail:
E6700 (stock)..............................................62w
nVidia 8600GTS...........................................47w
7200 Hard Drive...........................................14w
DVD Burner.................................................14w
2 80mm fans................................................8w

Total Max Power on 12v rail..........................145w
Total Max Amps..........................................12.1a

CPU Power Consumption Link

GPU Power Consumption Link

Remember the CPU and GPU are more powerful than what's in your system.

300w WILL be enough. i would how ever look into getting a better brand of psu because the ones that come with cases are known for being crap. they wont provide as much as they say they do and can cause problems with stability because of unstable voltages. even catch fire.... maybe?! (neva seen it for my self but heard about it)

Another case you might check out is the thermaltake lanbox vf1000bws, listed on amazon.com for $115.
