Its been a while since i was last on this forum. couple of years ago even.

i first joined when i just finished overclocking my 3700+ (to 2.8 ghz) and im back again with with my brand spanking new e2160 and msi neo2 fr motherboard.

whoop woo.

now im currentlyu stuck at the settings below. never used a intel CPU before (AMD fan who cant justify an AM2 setup) and while i understand the basic principal of over clocking i would appreciate some giudence.

system spec:

e2160 (currently at 3.1)
4 gig OCZ 6400 plat revision 2
msi neo2 fr
seasonics 430w psu
x1950pro -stock (pci bus locked)
actic freezer pro 7
2 x 120mm zalaman fan

when i get to 3.2ghz it loads to windows. will play games but fails prime 95.

vdrop is not less than 1.39v could that be it?

Getting 3.1 out of the 2160 is a great result. Toms max overclock was 3.3, but I believe their max stable overclock was 3.2. You could up the voltage to 1.45V for the CPU. Also, you may need to increase the FSB voltage as well. I can only get 2.9 out of my E2200.

Drop down your multiplier. I'm running an E2160 at 3.2, using 400x8. Voltage is set to 1.4 in BIOS, more like 1.36 - 1.39 after vdrop and vdroop.

Also, for cpu stability testing, make sure your ram is not running above rated. Going to a 1:1 ratio is your best bet for stability. It shouldn't matter, but it's better to verify your problems are CPU related and not RAM.

I could probably go to 3.6 with my proc, but I don't want to push voltages and whatnot. I'm happy with my temps topping out at 58c in a room with an ambient at or above 22.5c (probably closer to 24 most days).
