I got a 3800+, looking to upgrade.. where should I go?
I would like it to be 200-300 but i know for a quad its around 400
I want a solid processor that will last me awhile, not one i have to upgrade within a few months
We need more information about your current system; like motherboard manufacturer/model and socket type, VGA slot type (AGP/PCI-E), etc. Also what do you use your system for?
I meant around 400 for the fact that you still have to buy a decent motherboard along with the chip and that usually makes it around 400 dollars. I have a 939 socket so obviously a new motherboard is in order.. I was just wondering what kind of CPU I should go for, A duo or a quad... Honestly I have no idea what motherboard I have some junker from Asus, 3800X2 939 socket, 3 Gig DDR ram, and a SSC 8800 GT
Don't forget that if you upgrade the motherboard and get a new CPU, you'll also have to get DDR2 (or DDR3) RAM. Personally, I'd say get an Opteron 180 and call it a day.
My friend,...if u want something,...something great and,..solid,...buy a m2n-e from asus,...along with a 6400+ and a big typhoon from thermal take!,...i believe the total wont be over 300! And i reassure u,..form experience,....its all your's monies worth AND!

BTW - You need to clarify. In your original post, you say you have a 3800+. In a reply, you say you have an X2 3800+. Big difference.
If you just have a 3800+ then I'd go with the dual-core Opteron 180. If you have an X2 3800+, then I'd look into something like an Intel E6550 (with a new motherboard and RAM) or wait until the new quads come out in Q108.
