A stock cooler would be the one that comes in the retail box.

Right, stock cooler means the cooler that it came with.

If I had to recommend a cooler, it will be the Xigmatek HDT -S1283.

Trust me. I went with the Artic 7 Freezer Pro for my E8400 only because I'm a first time builder and it was a really cheap buy. The Xigmatex has great reviews and better cooling for the same price. Get it!
