Wow, I’ve had this Sapphire HD3850 for about two weeks and just saw now in CCC that the temp is over 86 degrees Celsius with 0% GPU activity!

I can tweak the fan speed in rivatuner to bring the temp down but why doesn’t the auto speed feature work?

I do have the card over clocked a bit but what the heck! I can’t imagine what this thing does under load!
So much for 55nm technology? I thought there may have been a bios update to fix the fan but I cant seem to find one.
Anyone else notice HOT temps with this thing or have suggestions?

Thanks!

There's gotta be something wrong, that's all I can say.

Thats what im sayin but the card runs fine, no lockups or funky stuff.
I just dont want it to blow chow in like a week or ever!

If something is wrong what should I check?

I will be adding some artic silver soon. I dont know what else to do besides that!

Thanks guys!

check if the heatsink is seated properly. when your computers on touch the heatsink to see if it is that hot...youll know

The problem was cooling.

The 3850 pretty much cut my case in half. I had zero venting and airflow below the card (The side where the GPU fan is).

Added $3 pci exhaust fan below the card and incresed the 3850 fan duty cycle. Shes 40 degrees C now!

So of course I had to overclock it, 770/1080 now with fan duty cycle at 70%. Temp = steady 55 degrees C!

Thanks all!
