Hi,
I'm going to be upgrading my PC soon and was wondering if a the Antec Sonata III is big enough and cool enough for a Q6600 and an 8800GT 256mb card as I know that this case is rather on the small side.
Also- will the power supply be enough to support both of these?
For good cooling for hot parts such as the Q6600 and 8600GT, the Sonata line would not be the best choice. As I have upgraded my old Sonata 1 box with hotter running parts (equipped with 2, 120mm fans), I discovered the case just could not exhaust enough hot air. There just is not enough air flow-through in these cases. You could really benefit from a case that has a CAG tube on the side panel equipped with a fan, the bigger the better, and that has dual 120s, one in the front for intake and the second at rear for exhaust. If size and layout is not a problem, the Antec 900 would be a far better choice.
The few times ive worked with the Sonata cases... yeh they are nice, but they do seem a little cramped and dont come with many fans. It should be ok for those components as long as you arent overclocking or aftermarket heatsinks... but if you want to overclock/install more heatsinks or even upgrade later on the 900 would be a much better choice.
