I'm considering upgrading my computer with a, hardrive to a 120-250 gb, adding another 1gb of ram, replacing the cd-rw with a DVD-Rom/CD-RW, and the cpu to a 3.06 but not knowing much about my motherboard, i'm not sure it will support it:
using evinsoft this is the current information i have at hand:

it has a 300w Antec power supply in it
I was informed that if I replaced the cpu with the same socket(understandable), FSB, and cahe size I would be alright, but never having heard this before wasn't sure if that was correct or not. I did read in a furom on dell that someone had put in a 3.06 with no problems but wanted to get some more opinions before I went through with it. It also brings up the question of how I know what type of bios to use if I need to flash it? Should I also see about putting in a larger power supply with these upgrades, I cant see the DVD-rom/cdrw or the larger harddrive to cause any problems with the power, but the ram and the cpu? I was considering this cpu:
Intel P4 3.06ghz socket 478 cpu 3.06ghz/512/533 SL6S5
Intel P4 3.06ghz socket 478 cpu 3.06ghz/512/533 SL6S5
Intel P4 processor
3.06ghz clock speed
533mhz Front Side Bus
512kb cache
Stepping code SL6S5
Tested prior to being pulled
Thank you for any information or opinions ya'll have always been most helpfull
That's a DELL, forget about upgrading the CPU except *maybe* with another P4, which would be a waste of money. A gig of RAM will make a world of difference in performance, and a new hard rive and DVD burner will work just fine.
