Hello,

I have an Duo Core 2 E6320 with a 680i LT and my FSB is 1500 MHz my PC appears stable.

I want a FSB of 1600 MHz, but when I set it up under Vista my PC crashes after time then gets junk in the CMOS. I think it's the Vista 3D screen saver.

I played Supreme Commander FA for over 1 hour then later after my PC was unattended blam.

Now back at FSB 1500 my present Core Voltage is 1.408 V and it drops to 1.376 V with less than 11% CPU load. There is fluctuation!

Is this normal?

I have a 580 Watt HEC PSU with DDR2 PC2 8500.

Should I waste the time, $$$, and gas for a new PSU?

Thanks

Vdroop is normal when the CPU is under a Load condition, but to have vdroop at only 11% is slightly worrying. Never had a nvidia based mobo, however i have heard that they aren't too good at high FSB.

I heard that the 6x0i series motherboards are not good at achieving high fsb.
On the PSU note, that is a very cheap power supply. I dont think that is your problem, but just so you know, that is a very low quality psu. If you have the money, i would recomend somthing like this,

I've got a Nvidia board in my other computer and its picky about voltages. I'd look for a new PSU if I were you, but first you might check out jonnyguru.com for PSU recommendations of what brand. Don't know all of the hardware you're running, but something in the area of 500wt to 600wt will power most computers, unless you're running SLI or Crossfire. Then you might look to the 700wt -750wt bracket.

My PC equip is:

Mb & CPU
Heatsink Fan
2 DVD-RW
1 Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS

Can I try removing the DVD drives to test the power?

Reply to todsmith

You can do that, but it would be better if you can replace the vidcard with something a lot less powerful. If you can't, try underclocking the 8800GTS.
