OK i just instaled my new AC freezer pro 7 and at an overclock to 2.8 its idles at 32 degrees C so i figured i go to 3.00 GHZ so thats a FSB of 1500.When i set this in the bios however i couldnt boot at all. I would have to bring it back to 2.8 to boot. I cleared the CMOS and im stumped as to what to do.I would love some help here thanks.

System specs:

Intel core 2 duo e6400
Arctic Cooling Freezer pro 7
Asus 650i
2 gb g.skill ddr2800 4-4-4-12
8800GTS G92

Your board is probably the limiting factor. The 6 series chipset wasn't the best @ OCing (major vdroop, generally low FSB tolerance, et cetera). I say it's the board. If you really want to try for it, go in 5MHz increments until you hit the "fsb wall". After that maybe try increasing the chipset voltage a notch. Good luck.

which voltage need to be altered the vcore?
also wouldnt i need to "lower" the voltage to the core the increments descend in voltage oin my motherboard starting at 1.6...down past 1.51 and probably lower. And its definately not the board holding me back...i've seen others on this board with 3.1+ fsb speeds.

The multiplier of the E6400 is 8. So to get an OC of 3GHz, you'll have to do an FSB of 375MHz. I'm not sure if that motherboard can do that, but it's worth trying. Set your vcore to 1.4v, which should be more than enough, then set the ram speed to your specified settings. Perhaps bump uo the NB voltage and FSB voltage by a notch or two.

The mobo/chipset is a real limiting factor as i also suffering now.

you will have to boost the NB and FSB massively to do that.i got a 650i with e2160 i lower the multiplier to 8x so now im stress testing it at 8x385@1.525v and NB+FSB +0.2V.and its passed 2 hours so far.going to let it run for 24hours and move on to RAM and graphics card OC.

but note that you have to have good cooling and airflow in your case.as the NB heatsink gets very toasty!!!i think you can melt chocolate on it!yumyum!hehe

You tell me what I do.

just let you know i got the worse combination for overclocking.both CPU and Mobo get "very good" reputation for poor overclocking!!!"i want GHZ!!!!!!"

hope that will comfort you abit!lol
