I dunno, the AS5 technically has to be re-applied every 6 mos. I'd probably stick with the stuff that came with the cooler. Or would have bought MX-2 to begin with :\

So one vote for thermalright and another for AS 5
AS 5 Has to be reapplied each 6 month ???

If you are going to change the processor, use arctic silver. I reapply arctic silver once every 2 years. If you are just going to use that processor, go ahead and use the thermal pad. The thermal pad has paraffin, it melts and fills the gaps. It is very hard to remove once it is settled in.

AS5 is one of the more popular paste out there, but it isn't the best. There's definitely better TIM out there, but I'm now wondering if AS5 can last longer than the rest.

While that review is very ambitious, it specifically said there was no cure time, which could make the whole test worthless. This may be a good thing for the AS5, but perhaps there's other pastes that can perform even better with the cure time.

I would use AC5. I still have a tube of it from 3 years ago.

Which brings up a point. Does thermal paste expire? Do they lose their performance on the long run?

My initial guess is yes, after all, some paste do get hard and crusty after a long time.

....and the silver can separate. I think they recommend storing it tip down in the fridge.

Yeah, 99.999% of it is silver. The rest isn't. So performance decrease?

99% is the purity of the silver. AS5 is only 88% silver. :kaola:
