Working on a new build (no OC yet, just defaults) and my BIOS is indicating 1.86 Ghz. I double-checked with CPU-Z and it identifies the q6600 correctly with 2.4 Ghz in the "Specification" field, but down below it says the core speed is 1867 mhz, with a multiplier of 7.0 and bus speed of 266.7 mhz. Am I missing something obvious here?

MB is a Striker Extreme (1305 bios)
Q6600 is a revision "G0"

The Multiplier should be "9" and not "7".
Check your BIOS to make sure something is not amiss.

"SpeedStep" crossed my mind, but that would drop the multiplier to "6" and not "7".

It is Speedstep, conserving power when under low demand. If desired it can be turned off in Bios.

Bizarre, because disabling speedstep was one of the first things I did along with switching the AI overclocking off. Anyway, manually changed the multiplier back to 9 and so far things seem fine so I guess it was just an oddball bios setting. Thanks for the quick help!
