Ok .. so i want to overclock my E8400 on my P35-DS3L. I've read through a few things and they are great help. But i'm so incompetent of doing this without it being specifically for the hardware. I want to achieve 3.6 ghz What do i have to change for this?

Hmm ok so the same settings from the GA-P35-DS3L overclocking thread like enable and disable ... but then by setting the FSB to 1600 i will get the 3.6?? im so noobish.. maybe a little more details please. Appreciate the help

What else do you want to know, there is really on that ... set FSB to 400MHz (1600MHz) and since the multiplier for the E8400 is 9, you will get 3.6GHz total speed (9*400 = 3600)....

If you want to know more you will have to be more specific.

If you set the FSB to 1600, you are setting the clock to 400MHz. That's because the FSB is quad pumped, 4X400MHz = 1600MHz. The CPU uses a 9X multiplier unless you specify lower, which gives you 9X400MHz = 3600MHz. The memory uses a 2X multiplier by default, which gives you 400MHz X 2 = 800MHz for you RAM.

Yep, even if it doesn't get sticked, we will always refer to it. :p

That guide is a godsend to newb overcolockers especially if they have a DS3L. It convinced me to OC my E8400 to 3.4ghz! I set it back to stock because the stock cooler couldn't handle it though . But at least I now know I can do it.

I think it is also gold for any experienced overclocker. I mean, it can be fun to tweak the MB, but when you want results quick, it can be nice to have the path drawn for you and just have to fiddle with final adjustments.

I have the same chip, e8400, but different board gigabyte x48-DQ6. Is there a guild for overclocking specifically with this board?
