I'm considering doing a quick and dirty upgrade from my overclocked 3800x2 at 2.7 to a e2160 at about 3.0. My concern is will the quicker speeds of the 2160 more than make up for it's smaller cache when gaming? I'd be using my 8800gts with it. Is this a worthy upgrade? I'd be going with the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L for a motherboard.

I don't think the increase would be very noticeable to be honest, especially when it comes to gaming, which is often GPU limited. A 3GHz E2160 is about equal to an X2 @ 3.3GHz. Sure it's faster than your current X2, but it's not like a night and day difference.

Personally, I'd only do it if you intend to use the E2160 as a 'stopgap' until the 45nm quads hit.

2 options. Get the E2160 now with intention to upgrade to one of the 45nm quads (Which will work with the P35, no matter what Intel says) when they're released early next year.

Or get a Q6600 now and don't worry about upgrading for a good couple of years.
