Win XP Pro Encryption - Any good?

Last response: in Windows XP

I'm here in Tanzania helping out a local Church. They have several freestanding WinXP Pro pcs connecting to the internet with a wireless D-Link router. Currently, they only have a sneaker net in place. The D-Link was set up by a local computer vendor so I don't know what level of security is being used. As their resources are limited (talk about understatements!), I'd like to try to set up a simple Peer to Peer network with a shared drive or two dedicated to backups and storing daily work files.
Under this scenario, would WinXP's EFS be adequate to help protect any sensitive information flying around between the several pcs? How difficult would it be to set the security & encryption so the staff here could easily open any encrypted files?
