I hear 2.8Ghz is do able with alot of tweaking, but i'm not holding much faith with that AsRock mobo. I had a DualVista asrock and that could change the FSB and PCI-E/AGP speed and that was it.

2.7Ghz is very respectable for an Opty :D 500Mhz increase on an AMD is good indeed.

Thanks for your reply. I am very surprised with the results from my chip. Currently have it O/C'ed to 2970.63 MHZ stable on stock HS and fan. Chip temps are 29-31 idle, and 49-52 full load (playing games). I have also double checked my core speeds with AMD clock. Core temp is my monitoring tool, how reliable is it ? I also have cool and quiet disabled as to not kill my O/C. FSB is 270, clock x 11

Core Temp and HWMonitor are both very reliable. Sweet o/c whats limiting you from hitting the whole 3Ghz?

Well im not 100% sure, it could be my memory, as im not 100% confident in the timings ect. Only running DDR400, timings on the ram itself say 2.5-6-3-3. But as i said im new to this whole thing. This is my first PC solo build and O/C but ive been fiddling with PCS ever since i can remeber. Think my first pc was a IBM redstoned 286 lol, now thats old.

Lol - I'll agree with you, your RAM will be limiting you. However, if you loosen the timings to get more speed out of the CPU i'm sure you'll actually lose speed.

Maybe try relaxing the RAM's Mhz instead? From 400 to 333 or 266 which ever is your next drop down :). How much have you had to increase the vcore?

I havent manually adjusted the v.core, hasnt been necessary, at 1.4v atm (standard) and thats the max my mboard goes. My ram is set at 400mhz atm. So you suggest 333 instead ? Should i leave the timings on auto or set to 2.5-6-3-3 ect ? I scored 11000 on 3d mark 05 with my rig that cost me $500.00 NZ to build so overall im rather pleased. As geting the most bang for my buck is what im all about. Got my opty 175 retail box for 175$

When you lower your RAM mhz if the timings are left on auto you should see them decrease. A good way to find out if this happens is to, open CPU-Z and click on the SPD tab. This'll have the timings table for your RAM at different frequencies. So if it isn't changed automatically you've got a good idea what to set them at :).

You've got a very good system bang for buck wise, and a very good chip overclockwise :).
