Windows Updates

My dad was running the windows update program a month or so ago and somehow the program 'bombed' before the updates had been installed. Now, when he turns the computer on, you see the 'wait for updates to be configured - do not turn computer off'. I took the laptop to work (very high speed internet connection) and, after turning the computer on, getting that same updates screen, I let it sit there for 30 minutes. It still read '0% complete. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

Hi Start the computer in safe mode and do a system restore. Or start in safe mode, go to programs and features/add remove programs and uninstall updates to the time the problem began.
