So I built a new PC in September and everything was running well. Last weekend, an overly internet junkie tween pretty much trashed my applications. I was getting consistent errors with Firefox and other programs crashing and Windows crashing.
So I reinstalled everything this last weekend and it seemed to be working well. Starting yesterday, the system is crashing to a blue screen and rebooting a couple of times a day, even when not under load. This is exactly the same configuration minus an internal card reader and external USB drive I haven't reattached and the same programs reloaded.
1. How can I get the blue screen crash to pause so I can see what the message is? It reboots way too fast to ever see what it says. I remember a long time ago selecting an option that prevented reboots when having an error or something like that.
2. Are there other ways to diagnose the reason for the crashes other than uninstalling and reinstalling components or software? Logs or something I can look at?
3. Other thoughts?
Thanks.

you can use windows event viewer to see what happens, but it depends on your settings as to what it logs. i don't remember how to launch it from run; just google it real fast.
but i would just reinstall again if you're not too far into customizing the new windows installation.
try using a different hard disk for windows, and use the one you have now for storage. (virus maybe?)
if that doesn't work, then take it through the test batteries - memtest86+, prime95
I ran memtest but not sure what I am looking for. I ran it with the default tests for both sticks, each stick individually, and both sticks in the other paired slots. Each time I got basically the same results. It seems like it gets about 1/2 way through test #2 and then goes straight to a summary screen. All of the information is basically the same except the # of errors for test #0. It is 10 for 1 stick and 56 for two sticks.
Somehow I don't think I am running this test correctly or something.
As I guessed, you can chalk it up to stupidity. I had an older version of memtest86 instead of memtest86+. This test ran just fine with the memory.
Also, I found the option I was looking for for disabling restarts at System>>Advanced>>Startup and Recovery>> Uncheck "Automatically Restart" under System Failure
