What would yield better peformance? I will be overclocking it pretty far. I am looing for performance in games and in general OS tasks.
The E2180 has awesome Overclocking potential, but only 1mb cache. The E2200 looks to be like the E2180, but 0.2Ghz faster, but it just released so it should have the same OCing potential, even better, but Im not sure. Then theres the E4400 which is at 2.0Ghz, and has a 2mb cache. But If I get this one it will have to be on stock cooling. The E2180 and E2200 will be on a Zalman 92mm ($30) cooler but if I go with the E4400 it will be on stock cooling.
So whats better?

E2180/2200, no question. I wouldn't buy a 4xxx unless it's an MO core (some 4400, all 4500, 4600, & 4700). Plus the higher OC potential with the Zalman will more than negate the cache disparity.

All of them are great procs. Dont let the 1mb cache fool you. There is a review about caches and the difference is very minimal. I have the e2180 at 3.33 and I love it. Here is a link I think you will find helpful.

I would like to get one of the 2200s and see if it is any better then my 2180. I'm prety sure it is the same thing except inte set the FSB higer on the 2200. Cant wait to see some reviews. My e2180 booted into vista at 3.8 but got hot fast in minutes on stock cooling. Oh the potential.

hmm, I want to read a review on the E2200 first. Just so I know that for some freak reason it doesn't OC as much or there's a bug, ect.

New Celerons will be out soon as well. I like to check one of them out if they are under $50.00

Ya. Why not. Looks the same as 21xx but only 512x2 cache. I would definately like to try one out. I'm sure they would make a great everyday computer.

Wow Intell is really saturating the market with every possible kind of CPU imaginable.

I would go with the e2180 as well.

My bad the celeron will only be 512k cache. 1.6 stock speed. Guestimates are it will be between $39-$59. If it overclocks anything like its brothers, I will be buying a ton of them to build for my average customers. I could build a sweet machine with that for around $280 for everything. Well besides the OS. Man the $$$$$ potential. Cant wait til the 20th to see what these Celerons can do.

For mild overclocking the 2180 and 2200 should be quite similar, but if you are looking to really push it, the 2200 will have a higher multiplier allowing for more possibilities so it might be worth the extra ~$10.

The cache difference between the 4xxx series and the 2xxx series isn't worth the ~$40.

The 2180 has a 10x multi. I doubt th e2200 will be higher.

Exactly the opposite my friend. The E2200 will have a multiplier of 11, resulting in a 2.20Ghz clock speed.

Edit: Similar to the E4500 with half the cache.

IMO, the E4400 with the stock HSF will give you better performance overall.

I have an E4400 (L2 stepping) and it does 3.33GHz (333 x 10) at 1.42V on the stock HSF. Newer M0 stepping E4400s should overclock slightly better as well... perhaps 3.4 - 3.5GHz on the stock HSF is doable.

To get the same performance out of an E21x0 chip, you would need roughly 3.6GHz or so, which is unlikely even with a good HSF, unless you are prepared to heavily overvolt the chip. From what I've seen, generally the E21x0 chips need slightly more voltage to hit the same clocks compared to the E4x00.

Your call though.

My e2180 is 3.33 with stock HS at 1.42 as well. It will load vista at 3.8 but gets hot in a couple minutes. I would like to get my hands on some watercooling.
