i try to install windows xp SP2 in my DELL inspiron 1440 which was i brought in last weak without operating system, can i istall it or?

You might have better luck if you can find a Dell XP installation disk - they usually turn up on e-Bay but don't expect to pay much for one. If the computer doesn't have a valid CoA sticker onit, you could have problems at the Activation stage though.
