Hey guys,

I ended up breaking the SATA controller on the back of my HD DVD drive while installing a power supply. I bought another one and installed it, connected the power and sata cable and viola - NOTHING worked when I started Vista 32 (home premium).

I have 2 drives, and I unplugged both before installation, just to get my hands around, or else I would break things. So, I don't know if this caused the problem. When I go into setup (F10), I don't even see the drives. The PC boots to Vista and the hard drives are recognized, but the 2 drives don't even show up at all and I even looked in device drivers and nothing.

I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.

Check your connections to the drives.

I finally resolved it.

It wasn't a connection issue. The issue was the type of SATA/IDE adapter used. The one I originally used that didn't work:

I finally took that one out and took a chance to buy this one:

The 2nd one looked almost exactly like the one that broke. I mean, this may have to do with the quality of the chipsets, but this one worked perfectly. I have read that people have limited luck with these anyways. I could have also got a PCI IDE controller but my case was way too crowded, which is why I took the chance with the adapter.

I hooked it up to the back of the drive, hooked up the power, andhooked up to the SATA connection on the MOBO. Then I turned on the pc and viola - windows detected it and it works fine.
