do you guys have any opinions on what MANUFACTURER i would go with?..
i personally like ASUS, EVGA, LEADTEK and XFX. but i would like to hear your thoughts about quality and general performance of these manufacturers and who would you rate in 1st to 4th pick if possible, price is not really an issue as i would pay for better performance.
its only if the manufacturer is too expensive but has crap quality that i will be pissed
im sorry to have asked about the manufacturers again as i made a thread about the 8800GT's and i got no clear answer, and i didnt bother to buy inflated priced cards.
The only brands I would ever consider, are ones with lifetime warranties, EVGA and XFX offer this, the others don't. So it should be an easy choice.
Leadtek offers a 3 year warranty if I'm not mistaken.
Don't settle for anything less then XFX/EVGA. Personally...XFX has a much better warranty policy, they even have a double lifetime warranty. If you sell the product, that person gets the lifetime warranty as well...They just have to register the product the same way you did in order to activate the life time warranty. Makes it easier to sell, and get the most for your money. Better then the EVGA step up program IMO, which expires in 3 months.
EVGA OC $569.80 itsdirect.com.au online retailer (this company has extra costs of shipping)
Leadtek $526.80
XFX $471.90
Inno3d $500.50
Inno3d OC $511.50
MSI OC $515.80
Gainward $459.80
ASUS $479 MSY (this shop is walking distance from my house )
Gigabyte $479

Just took a look at staticice... It's a nice day, take a stroll down to MSY.
Wow, kinda sucks that Aus have such high prices...
You think that is bad?
In NZ it is $599 for the XFX GTS512, 580 for leadtek GTS512, 450-500 for the GT. No problem with supply at those prices of course, my local store has 40 odd GTS512's on the shelf and over 100 GT's...
3870's are all sold out at $400... 3850's going fast at $320
.85 AUD -> NZD$1
.77 US$ -> NZD$1
At least its only really GPU's that are overpriced everything else is pretty close to their US equivalents.
Scorptec down Melbourne way have at least 3 of the 512 versions for $399. Namely the XFX, Gigabyte and Gainward (XFX also the "Extreme Edition" for $425).
Forgot to explain (in light of the fact that you were referring to the GTS) that at this point the performance per dollar between the GT and GTS seems close to a photo finish at the current prices.
I'm hoping the GT will drop a little more in price now the GTS is out. That XFX Extreme Edition GT looks good for $425.
How come you bought the Asus? It was $479, while they sell generic (XpertVision?) 8800GTS 512's for $430 odd. Scorptec in general grossly overprice their products (a week or 2 ago, they were asking $469 for 8800 gt's, more than $100 higher than everyone else) because they know they are the only ones to have stock, and they'd sell anyway. Only now that supply seems to have stabilised SLIGHTLY are they lowering them below $400 (and given that other places have stock of the gts's lower than their price for the gt).

well as you can see, this thread was also a inquiry about manufacturers..
i did not get clear answers again, only answers saying get the one with best warranty..
so i opted to buy ASUS again as i never had a problem with their cards...
MSY had the cheapest ASUS even on staticice.com.au and my card is cheaper than most "good" manufacturer cards on other retailers so i am happy
