Whats up guys..im going to be purchasing a gigabyte ga p35 ds3l motherboard...but im really not sure which ram to get...I want 2x2 gigs...so im thinking ddr2 800...is this good or should i get something else? the ones im considering are:
lol im in the same place you are, first of all the gold are crap, but to decide between the titanium and the reaper is basically, how big is your heatsink, if its huge its likely that the reaper will not work
I had the same questioning too, and I decided to go along with the Reaper and the DS3L. Before I made my decision I looked at lots of picture of the DS3L board and some HSF units. I figured-out that yes some HSF could cause problems with the RAM, but there are plenty of good ones that would fit.
First of all, the Intel stock cooler will not interfere, it is barely larger than the holding pins. If you plan on getting another cooler, the ZALMAN CNPS9700, might fit a bit tight, but it does (image from a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R with what seems to be Raper RAM) and the CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 should fit just as well (see last picture on this page). So it works with stock cooler and you got at least a couple of good alternate cooling solutions.
If you're thinking of getting a Reaper kit remember this - you will NOT be able to get 4 reaper sticks in your motherboard the future, they're just too big to fit 2 side-by-side
Someone told me they could and found some posts confirming this (like this one); some boards might be exceptions and when they fit they might be tight, but they should fit. I think what you are referring to is the ReaperX series with the dual heat-pipes.
